Earlier this year, Student Edge relocated from their original headquarters in Subiaco to Fern, powered by Spacecubed in Perth’s CBD where their ambitious team have settled in and are making the most of the abundant opportunities vibrant coworking spaces provide.

Student Edge is Australia’s leading membership for students, offering secondary, tertiary and apprenticeship students the ability to join the online community. The free membership allows them to take advantage of exclusive resources, access to discounts, free job and internship search boards, surveys and career tips. Since it was founded in 2003, Student Edge has grown to over 1.375 million members, with 100+ educational institutions and a growing list of sponsors.

We recently sat down with Jeremy Chetty, Co-Founder of Student Edge to find out how they’ve scaled nationally, what their most memorable milestone is and what they love about being a part of the Spacecubed community.

When asked how Student Edge has grown over the past 12 months, Jeremy shared, “over the past year, Student Edge has had one of the strongest years in membership growth since pre-covid. 2023 was an exciting time – we were finally back on the ground hosting face-to-face events again with students.”

“Internally as an organisation, we've also opened opportunities for employees to work fully remote. This has enabled us to broaden our network far and wide in the search for talent and as a result, we’ve recruited some incredibly skilled people from all over Australia and the Philippines.” Jeremy added.

Discussing what Student Edge’s most memorable milestone is, Jeremy shared that it would have to be hitting 1 million members in 2018.

“That year, we saw one of our biggest years in growth both for the business and membership. From our humble beginnings in 2003, the Co-Founders including myself, Craig Chetty, Damien Langley, and the late Simon Loader, started Student Edge fresh out of high school with a dream to support young people through the journey of being a student. Fast-forward 20-years and Student Edge has shown immense strength, growth, and prosperity year on year.” Jeremy shared.

When asked why the team decided to move their headquarters from Subiaco to Fern in Perth CBD, Jeremy said it was to be more connected to industry, partners and innovators. Membership Marketing Manager Bianca Anderson was also thrilled to relocate, as the team just loved the vibe at Fern.

“The space provides lots of natural light and aesthetically pleasing décor all within walking distance from Elizabeth Quay and Perth Underground stations. The moment we stepped into the reception area, we instantly felt like we were part of something exclusive and luxurious.”

“Our team is known for loving our food and coffee, so the distance to Allendale Food Court and Mary Street Bakery is a bonus (not for our bank accounts though). Fern’s sparkling water and coffee on tap are added perks we can’t get enough of.” She shared.

Fern is one of four of Spacecubed’s coworking locations in Perth and houses a range of freelancers, entrepreneurs, startups and corporate teams from various industries. It’s a great place for members to expand their network and uncover new collaboration opportunities.

When asked what Student Edge loves about being a part of the Fern community, Jeremy highlighted, “the team’s favourite part is feeling like we’re part of something bigger, broadening our connections to a wide range of industries and expanding our networks.”

“We’re excited about Fern’s regular community events and social mixers, where we can share and connect with like-minded people.”

Looking forward, Student Edge have ambitious goals for 2024 as they’re finally feeling the market is back where it was pre-covid.

“2024 for us is all about innovation and thinking outside the box. A huge focus for us this year is elevating the experience for our members and ensuring we're continuously being student-first as one of our core values.” Jeremy concluded.
