Coming a long way from the small data mashup event in 2009, and first starting in Perth in 2013 to now being a huge international competition, bringing over 1800 people together to innovate, collaborate and apply their creative skills, GovHack encourages open government, and more accessible data for all.

Mission

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is simple. For 46 hours, you will have access to never seen before government data; and it would be your task to innovate, create and prototype new ways to solve the socio-economic and governmental challenges facing Australia on a daily basis.

This year’s GovHack promises to open more doors than ever before for you to collaborate with government and government data. Celebrating your technical and creative capacity, you will have the opportunity to compete against teams of budding innovators, and step up the drive of social and economic impact.

Who can take part?

Focusing on building a better, stronger democracy through innovation, participation and the development of a strong community of civic hackers, GovHack encourages people from all walks of life to take part. From entrants new to the workforce, students looking to graduate soon, techies, business people and government officials, everyone is encouraged to take part and innovate new solutions to real world challenges at the event.

GovHack at FLUX

This year GovHack WA turns 4 and will be based at Perth’s newest coworking space, FLUX, on the 29th to the 31st of July.

If you haven’t done so already, find out about past GovHack events and winners here and join some of Western Australia’s most innovative prototypes and innovations to come out of previous events; like #OnCountry, the online mapping site of Indigenous stories (learn more here) and Pixtory, the app exploring Perth's history on your mobile.
