2021 is off to a flying start for not only the Spacecubed community, but for West Australian business owners as the challenges of 2020 begin to lessen and the uncertainty of the future becomes more clear. In a recent article on The West Australian discussing the importance of supporting local businesses, they reported that ‘The Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA business confidence survey for the September quarter last year showed that short-term business confidence had recovered, partly driven by record fiscal support.’

And while many businesses are still in the midst of recovering, there are some who are already making waves just a few days into the New Year. Announced by The West Australian on January 5, was the top startups to watch this year. Featuring startup champion and previous Plus Eight Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR), Tim Brewer, founder of Functionly, Bud O’Shannessy, cofounder of LiveMine, Mike O’Hanla, cofounder of Switch Batteries, Vanessa Rauland founder of Climate Clever, Plus Eight alumni, Lorena Sumich of KIXXFIT and Peter Salom, cofounder of LITT.

But these six founders aren’t all that has made headlines in the last few weeks, as WA’s largest investment fund BetterLabs, shared their reimagined investment strategy during COVID-19 and into the new year as fund manager and current Plus Eight EiR, Derek Gerrard discussed why the pandemic didn’t stop them from committing to new projects.

With some great stories showcasing Spacecubed members above, we’re also here to recognise and show our support for all our members and those in the wider community nominated for Business News’ Murdoch University People’s Choice Award. Including Tina Ambrose, CEO of Valrose, City of Canning Sprint alumni, Cynthia Wong, Dylan Lamb, cofounder of Holonic, James Royce, director of Delta Risk Solutions and of course, our very own Kate Kirwin, founder of She Codes Australia.
