This week we introduce you to Ricki Barnes, a successful web developer who has been a permanent member of our coworking community since August 2015. Learn how her journey at Spacecubed has helped her both professionally and personally. How did your startup journey begin?

After 10 years working for the same company, I felt it was time to do something a little different, so I decided to go into business for myself - doing the same thing I had that experience in, but independently.

I resigned from my job and was working out my four weeks’ notice when I came to an event at Spacecubed. I ended up chatting with someone who was a member. She showed me around, and I thought this space was exactly what I was looking for.

What are you working on at the moment?

I design and develop websites for a range of clients and industries. I’m generally working on designing and building websites from scratch, or working with clients on their existing collateral to improve results. You might also see me once a week hosting the front desk on Spacecubed’s ground floor.

What do you love most about the Spacecubed community?

The sense of community. I have only worked in small workplaces before, so it’s a really different experience for me to see a lot of different people every day. I also find the atmosphere is both inspiring and supportive, as it’s chiefly made up of people who are all at a similar place in their career / business, regardless of industry.

Who would you like to connect with most?

Professionally, small-to-medium businesses that are quite well established and are looking for high quality web and digital work. Socially, anyone within the community.

Can you share with us a success story you've achieved during your time at Spacecubed/Flux?

As a generally pretty introverted person, I’ve come a long way in terms of being more outgoing and confident to talk to people. This is definitely partly attributable to being in a space like this, and particularly meeting new people through hosting.

What do you hope to achieve in 2017?

I would like to continue to expand my client base, and hopefully connect with more people or companies that have really exciting projects.
