International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. Being celebrated for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people, now IWD marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality and belongs to all groups collectively, everywhere.

With the champion theme of 2021 #ChooseToChallenge, this year is focussed on how we can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements. Collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

To join the celebrations, we’ll be hosting a panel discussion and high tea at Spacecubed x Murdoch where key female figures will be welcomed to the stage to share their journey on wellness, creating a perfect pitch and finding their way through a male-dominated tech world.

The panel will feature Kate Kirwin, founder of She Codes, Cony Diaz, Marketing & Customer Success Officer at Skills of the Modern Age, Elizabeth Knight, founder of Purposeful and Lauren Christie, Client Partner at Vitality Works, and attendees can enjoy a glass of champagne on arrival as they hear from this panel of leading women.

When asked what International Women’s Day meant to our panellists, they all responded slightly differently, but all included that it is a time to support other women and champion those around you. For Lauren Christie, her inspiration for IWD came from a quote from Meryl Streep, “I think role models for women are people who are fruitfully and confidently themselves, who bring light into the world.”

For Cony Diaz she found that some of the most meaningful ways for women in the community to support each other is simply by talking about something and maybe bouncing ideas off each other. “It's important to do this as you also end up helping yourself along the way!"

Kate Kirwin shared that International Women's Day is important to her because it's about celebrating what makes us each unique and special. “Usually IWD is full of lots of learning events, the community coming together, and stories being shared, so I am excited to be part of the Spacecubed IWD event this year and learn from my fellow panelists, as well as get a chance to meet all the incredible women in the Spacecubed community.”
